Schultz announced in July 2011 that “Starbucks' retail business is currently structured as Starbucks US and Starbucks Coffee International (SCI), which includes 54 markets outside of United States. Starbucks will move to a new organizational structure in three regions” (Starbucks, 2011). These regions were China and Asia Pacific, Americas and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). This move was aimed at accelerating multi-brand growth. By January 2014, Starbucks announced a leadership restructuring. The company announced that Starbucks will expand its focus on “next-generation retail and payment initiatives across digital, mobile, cards, loyalty and e-commerce to position Starbucks for its next wave of global growth” (Starbucks , 2014). Keeping pace with the current environment and looking ahead to opportunities will position Starbucks for the future. Leadership change allows them to leverage leadership skills to look for opportunities to stay ahead
