What is Leadership? Leadership is a responsibility. It's a responsibility because true leaders understand the impact they have on the lives of others. Leaders must set an example so that others can follow. “By setting a great example, leaders can show their followers that there are no nine-to-five jobs on the team, only opportunities to achieve something great.” Leadership can be defined in many different ways and all could be correct as it relates to the context in which they are used. Many organizational managers are seen as leaders because of their title, community leaders are seen as leaders because of their contributions to the communities in which they live, motivational leaders are seen as leaders because of their eloquent speaking skills, and teachers are seen as leaders because of the level of impression they have on young minds. The true definition of leadership is so solid that some may disagree with my statement above because the titles I cited do not fit the definition of leadership they believe. One thing that can be believed is that leadership is a collective set of skills and an ongoing practice. Qualities, Attitudes, and Traits The qualities I look for in a leader include integrity, dedication, magnanimity, openness, creativity, fairness, assertiveness, and a positive attitude. sense of humor. As a leader, it is critical to have qualities that demonstrate your ability to have followers and be accountable to the content of your character. The attitudes I look for in a leader include positivity, purpose, empathy, humility and love. The great thing about attitudes is that they can be taught. These specific attitudes are in line with some of the greatest leaders of all time. Nelson ...... middle of paper ...... I have learned that being self-aware and learning strategies to deal with my feeling of nervousness can help me focus on the speech itself and not on the fact that I am in front of to a group of individuals who I subconsciously think are judging me. As a leader, you also shouldn't feel comfortable with the situation you currently find yourself in. This comfort level is a breeding ground for stagnation and leads to stunted personal growth. I would like to continue growing and continue learning. To do this, I have to get more uncomfortable with being comfortable. I would also like to improve my planning skills and not just let things happen as they go. I know plans can change, but you need to know where you want to go to map out a plan to get there. I have always believed in the saying that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
