They both have children who are faced with a situation. How children handle these situations is totally up to them. The kids take matters into their own hands by not letting themselves be manipulated by an adult. While in Williams' story the little girl finds herself faced with a doctor to whom she still doesn't give up. The little girl doesn't have to do anything she doesn't want to do, and in the end she is forced to do what she doesn't want to do. . In Ser's story the boys have the final decision whether to help this man or not. Children who do not inform their parents give them all the power to do whatever they want. However, the boys had some common sense when it came to the man in the well; if there was a man down there they let him die in a way. The kids in Sher's story were smart, but they should have asked for help, whether it was a good idea or not. In both stories everything is under the control of the children. In Williams' story the little girl was defeated, but only by force. In Sher's story the boys had won but they had also been defeated by the knowledge that they knew there was still a man stuck in a well. In both stories the kids have to face their own consequences, because they made the decision as adults and it will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
