Walking and Jogging Course Experiences When I found out that exercise courses are a required part of a degree program I was less than thrilled. I decided to start walking and jogging because I thought everyone can walk. I wasn't aware of how much adding a walking routine to my schedule would change my daily life. Since starting this course I have noticed some improvements in my health, I have found a way to involve my family and I have learned to incorporate exercise into my core routine. One of the benefits I have noticed over time is gradual weight loss. I started this course at 182 pounds, which obviously means I'm obese. I end this course at 174 pounds for a loss of eight pounds. Even though I realize it's eight kilos. When I started the course, I would walk during the day and ask my oldest son to watch the three youngest. This meant that every time I left, my kids would ask me where I was going. I explained to them that Mom was taking a walking class and that I needed to get some exercise for the class and for my health. As the Texas heat got more intense, I started walking at night after my kids were long gone to bed and my husband could listen to them during the hour I was gone. I explained to them that I had to walk and that it was important for both my education and my health, so I might not be there if they woke up, but that I would be home very soon. This has led to many conversations (the kind only three- and four-year-olds can have) about why people need to exercise, how the body works, and why it's important for people of all ages to be moving . For me, this is something that I will take away from this lesson that will last. We will follow almost the 1.61 mile route, but will stop about halfway since that is where our neighborhood playground is located. We can let the kids play there for thirty to forty-five minutes and then walk the rest of the way home. Since I will be bringing my family with me, I won't worry about time and pace. Instead of walking late at night, we will move it to our morning free time, from ten to noon, when we serve lunch to the children. I feel like this routine will fit into my lifestyle a little easier, allow me to include my spouse (also disabled and obese), and include my kids so they watch their parents actively go out and
