With the first ever recorded match of Australian Rules football in 1858 between Scotch College and Melbourne Grammar School, Thomas Wills in 1858 on his return from England proposed that a match similar to English Rugby League could be used to keep cricketers fit during the winter season. The rules of the Australian Football League (AFL) are still ambiguous since Thomas Wills established the basic rules for which they are still used today, [1]. However, the rules were not followed very well and are sometimes still not followed today, with Colden Harrison becoming a figure in charge of the game's administration who stated unwaveringly that "football is essentially a tough game throughout the world and not it is fit for poodle-men and milk-sops' [1]. As the game became tougher and more dangerous, with players regularly being tripped, punched and kicked, charged or tackled behind the play, referees employed centuries to liberate the game from this unsportsmanlike behavior. Australian rules football teams arrived in a staggered fashion with the major Melbourne and Victorian teams arriving first with the Geelong football team being first in 1859 and other major teams in 1896 with Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Fitzroy, Melbourne, StKilda and South Melbourne eventually becoming the Sydney Swans Other teams outside Victoria joined the Australian Football League in 1987 with the addition of the West Coast Eagles and Brisbane Bears, later Fitzroy and Brisbane Bears merged to create the Brisbane Lions. Then came the final editions of the Gold Coast Suns and Greater Western Sydney [1], completing the total of 18 teams playing today. With the rise of the Australian Football League came many theories as to how the sport came to be... midway through the paper...... and 1.3, it can be seen that Melbourne lost twenty games compared to Carlton's eleven games, all won and lost. It can be seen that Carlton football team compared to Melbourne football team is a more reliable team for 2013, [8]. This demonstrates Carlton's consistency and ability to remain reliable with eleven wins and eleven defeats compared to Melbourne's unreliability and inconsistency with its twenty defeats and only two wins. With the statistics in figures 1.4 and 1.5 from the Carlton Vs Melbourne football match held in 2013 it can be seen that the strength of the Carlton football team dominated for most of the match with most possessions contested, within fifties and hit outs . Showcasing the strengths of the Carlton football club and their ability to support and help emerging young athletes to develop.
