Most people would say that having modern conveniences is, simply put, more convenient. Having washing machines frees up time to dedicate to cleaning the house; or having a computer helps with work or study. Cars save us from having to walk everywhere; however, they also cost time to build and maintain. The money spent to purchase these machines and the time spent by workers getting the item to the consumer should be taken into consideration. One miner spent numerous hours finding enough metal to build a washing machine, another worker spent time designing it. Yet another worker spent time building it. Furthermore, it took time for the consumer to earn enough money to purchase the washing machine. However, was all the time it took to build these machines worth it? Saving time is the intended design of some machines, but the machines aren't actually saving time, they're simply spreading the workload to provide the illusion of savings. Technology bombards the average American from the moment he wakes up in the morning until the moment he falls asleep.
