I intend to spend more time establishing a shared vision with my members about the future of our detachment and their careers. We know the mission of our Marine Safety Detachment (MSD), but what will it look like in five or ten years? How far do they want to advance their careers and work together to develop their Individual Development Plan (IDP)? • Appeals to others to share an exciting dream of the future. Once we have determined, through our aforementioned efforts, what our future might look like, I must ensure that we find ways to continue to keep their energy level high and maintain a high level of enthusiasm for the development of this future. • Give people a great deal of freedom and choice in deciding how to do their jobs. As I reflect on my leadership, I agree that I don't do it as often as I should. Going forward, I intend to give my members a task and deadline with minimal guidance. I will seek input on how to proceed with the task. As we respond to pollution incidents or conduct facility inspections, I will allow them to work their way through each phase of responding and helping work. Once the task is complete, we will debrief on the methods used and whether there is a more efficient means of accomplishing them
