General ElectricLife as we know it today is primarily the result of the innovation of the modern marvels of the most important company of the 19th century. General Electric, GE, is one of the most innovative companies of all time, with revolutionary advances in science and technology. GE scientists, among the world's brightest, are focused on finding solutions to the world's toughest problems in energy, medicine, transportation, finance and everyday home life. GE has more than 304,000 employees worldwide and has created 67,588 patents. This is an even greater number of patents than the US government has. GE's number one commitment focuses on the ecological imagination by reducing its environmental footprint and therefore aiming for economic growth. What is the first basic necessity that most people would say they can't live without? The power of electricity is probably the most popular answer. Thomas Edison is the individual responsible for the transformation of modern life as it was known in 1878-1879 and as we still know it today. When his newly formed company, Edison Electric Light Company, brought his vision and imagination to life, it changed creation forever. This devised a way to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy, which would forever shape the course of this industry. General Electric was eventually formed by a merger with the Thomson-Hudson Company in 1892 to become a major company. Over the next few years, General Electric began planning various projects involving the use of electricity on a much larger scale.
