We all know that the creature has done some wrong things, but who is really to blame? In the book Frankenstein by Mary Shelly there are many perspectives that are shown. Several factors all make up the creatures' wrong actions which prove that all three are to blame. Some may say that the fault lay with the creature itself, with society, or with Victor Frankenstein, the creator. There are many different actors and they can all be played differently. One way society influences the Creature's behavior is by disgust and hateful attitude towards him. For example, when the creature landed in a village, it was attacked because of its appearance: “…I had barely put my foot in the door, before the children screamed and one of the women fainted. The whole village rose up, some fled, others attacked me, until he was seriously wounded by stones and many other types of thrown weapons” (93). The mere appearance of the creature was enough to make the village set out to attack him. People fear what they don't understand and may act irrationally. After that, it is understandable that the creature despises and seeks revenge against humans. Another example of how badly society treats him is shown when the creature finally manages to gather courage and talks to the blind man. They are interrupted when his family returns home. “Felix lunged forward, and with supernatural strength snatched me away from his father… threw me to the ground and struck me violently with a stick” (122). The creature was still able to converse with his blind father when others say so; he was beaten and chased away. The fact that the family he had watched for so long shunned him at the sight of his face demonstrates society's ignorance. Society hit the creature by punishing and... middle of paper... reduced you to dust!'” (86). Victor not only abandoned the creature, but also hates him. It's part of the reason the creature took out all its anger on humans. When no one, not even his creator loved him, he began to develop many different emotions within himself which turned into anger. Society saw him as a loathsome monster who had no intention other than to harm people. This led them to distance him from everyone. Even the creature itself chose some decisions that weren't the best options. Victor is responsible for caring for his creation. Most people in the world have one person who loves them, but if no one person does, they can mentally fall apart. People need to know that they may be contributing to the problem without even knowing it. All in all, everyone was at fault in one way or another which led to the creature becoming a monster.
