A desk-based approach is taken to synthesize previous literature of different conceptualizations of teacher authority with the literature of teacher-centered, student-centered and emancipatory. Regarding the emancipatory approach, Rancière's The Ignorant Master and its current interpretations are reviewed to demonstrate the construction of a "teacher under authority" (of the subject
