The events leading up to the Apollo Moon Landing are some of the most exciting events in American history. According to many, the moon landing is one of America's greatest successes. Three astronauts rode on a rocket the size of an average skyscraper to conduct the most exciting space mission yet. A mission that took a decade to prepare. Before the Apollo program there was Project Gemini, and before Gemini there was mercury. A 1-2-3 progression in size. Mercury sent up 1 man, Gemini 2, and Apollo 3. For this one, though, I will focus only on Apollo and Gemini. The Gemini program began in 1965. Its purpose: to prepare for the trip to the moon by studying how long-term space flight affects the human body, practicing complex maneuvers, such as proximity flight and extravehicular activity. Launching twelve flights in all, the program used the largest rockets the United States had built at the time, and when launched, these rockets were one hundred percent successful.
