In this example, the designer applies a textured background along with rectangular shapes with a "blocking" technique to ensure the necessary information is easier for the viewer to read. Incorporating texture into the background of this design adds depth and interest to the composition. While I don't particularly like this flyer and don't think it's a good design, the method of using shapes to break up the texture of the background is effective in conveying the necessary information. These two methods of applying shape to a design or illustration are regularly used from national and/or global companies to small or local businesses and can be found in advertisements, web pages and sites, packaging, flyers and logos. Many times these techniques go unnoticed (until you look for them), thus proving their effectiveness. (National and local examples:
