Good vs. Evil Since the beginning of time, from the stories mothers told their children to modern movies, good vs. evil has been a very common theme. Classic Disney films like Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Hercules, and many others would always have a plot centered around this idea, along with love, for young children. Kids who have been watching the movies since they were little would always be happy to watch them again when they are older because it is a very simple theme that stands the test of time unlike any other movie that is a trend now like the annoying, overrated , Twilight series. At least for me I still love Disney classics and probably always will. In The Scarlet Letter there are many interpretations of good versus evil and how they are seen as good or evil. The scarlet letter is the first sign of good versus evil in the book. “At the very least they should have put the mark of a hot iron on Hester Prynne's forehead” (p. 59) The market is full of people and a group of women talk about how Hester has such a beautiful punishment. They view the letter as a sin and that it should be bad for her for such a bad crime she committed. While Hester knows she has committed a sin but being punished for it now on Earth, she knows she will go to heaven. At the beginning of the book the “A” stood for adultery and it gradually begins to be accepted by society. Such willingness was found in her, so much agency and ability to sympathize, that many people reinterpreted the scarlet 'A' according to its original meaning. They said it meant 'Able'” (p. 156) The villagers began to see the “A” for able because Hester did not close after being released… halfway through the card… .. The entrance of Winthrop in heaven. Good versus evil is present throughout this book, it can be found in many other novels and films, sometimes hidden in the plot or out in the open as the main plot. The reason why the theme of good versus evil is very classic and original is because it is a fact from life that stands the test of time. There will always be good versus evil in life. Depending on how a person sees the situation, it might seem good or bad, just like the perspective of the characters in the novel. It is human nature to look at a situation and see what you want to see, there will always be two sides to a story. In The Scarlet Letter there are many interpretations of good versus evil and how they are seen as good or evil, this is why The Scarlet Letter is still discussed many years after its publication.
