After all the tragic events in her life, Emily has become extremely introverted. After killing Homer, Emily locked herself in and locked everyone else out. It was mentioned: “…that was the last time we saw Homer Barron. And Miss Emily's for a time” (628). In fact, no one in town knew Miss Emily personally as she always kept her doors closed, which reflects how she kept herself closed all those years. Many women in the city came to her funeral curious about how she lived, because no one had ever known her well enough to know. This was revealed early in the story when the narrator mentions "the women chiefly out of curiosity to see the interior of his house, which no one but an old servant... had seen for the last ten years" (623). Everyone in town knew her but they didn't know her because she kept to herself for everyone
