On passage eleven I will have to disagree with him as it seems too cold a way to approach life. While writing this passage it seems that Epictetus was focusing on the fact that the world is an easier place if there is a lack of empathy in the way I go through it, so that I can lack any kind of connection with the things I come into contact with. The world is a cruel place, of course, and how I know it can be changed in an instant, so it makes the world easier if I don't try to connect with anyone I meet or any property I own. I should avoid becoming empathetic towards the world around me and never worry about people who are suffering as worrying about someone else causes too much harm. It works if I am able and willing to avoid getting close to anyone in my life, even though it would be a lonely existence to always think that to avoid everything being taken away from me in an instant, I don't have to worry about anything I come into contact with
