Topic > Four Phases of Critical Thinking - 981

Introduction to thoughts“Think”. One word. It's a simple statement. It's a simple concept, right? Not when you think about how to think. Critical thinking is thinking about how we think. In this article I will demonstrate my developing intellectual traits by identifying and describing my perceived stage of critical thinking development, as described by the Stages of Critical Thinking Development model. I will also reflect on the Critical Thinking course. I'll talk about what I've found helpful and insightful. Diving into My ThinkingBefore I state where I believe I am in the stages of critical thinking, we must first examine the first four stages of development. I'll quickly go over what the four phases are. The first phase is called When I looked at the different definitions I could see where I fit in the development phases. I can see where I need more work on my thought process. To become a deeper and more critical thinker I will have to work on my emotions and my myopia. A Practicing Thinker is someone who I believe has not mastered thinking, but who continues to become more aware of the deeper thought processes so that it is natural for him to sit and reflect on a situation, a problem, or even just an idea, and see many different ways of approaching the problem. I believe this understanding of how much I actually need to grow will help me when dealing with the different things I encounter in my day. For example, if I know I'm not the best at emotional thinking, I will try to look at a solution or position I've taken on a topic and can ask myself to look at it again through a more emotional perspective. This and other “lenses” will help me move from a novice thinker to a practitioner. When we understand how we can think not only about the big picture, but also about the opposing point of view, our world takes on a new shape. It's not just someone who comes from another part of the world, but someone who has a rich culture and ideas that may be different from ours because of their point of view. It's no longer just about opinions, it's about educated, fact-based opinions. It's no longer just a hard-nosed argument on social media, but an opportunity to educate others about why you truly think a certain way about the issue
