Topic > Effect of Legalizing the Sale of Human Organs - 1431

There is a worldwide shortage of human organs used for transplants. Most people might think that resource shortages impact foreign countries, but it's a big problem here in the United States, too. This shortage is caused by the lack of individuals actually donating their organs and also because government officials have made the sale and purchase of human organs illegal. The sale of human organs is considered illegal in all countries except Iran, and the Iranians have solved the organ shortage problem by legalizing sales. (Black, 1986) Although the sale of organs is extremely illegal and in doing so violates the 1984 US law that prohibited the sale of human organs. (Dodge, 1994) Black market sales have only increased over time. The effects of legalizing the sale of human organs will help prevent black market crimes, ensure respect for everyone's civil liberties and reduce the number of people waiting on the transport list. While not all transactions that pass through the black market are exploitative, unfortunately most are. The most unpleasant part of the trade is due to the fact that it is extremely illegal. After witnessing horror stories of what happens in the black market, many are calling on the government to step up and crack down on violators. Unfortunately, the fact that these black market sales are illegal increases its profits, allows the market to be run by organized crime, and prevents those who have been harmed by the black market from seeking normal avenues of redress. Black market trading doesn't seem to be going anywhere, why not implement a course of action that will help to have controlled trading. A counter...... of paper... with black markets and with the legalization of the sale of human organs. Brokers are looking for desperate people who are willing to do anything to receive financial assistance and take care of their family. The middlemen would then buy their organ for a price and then find a desperate person who needed an organ to live and sell it to them for double and sometimes triple the price they paid for it. This is where the poor are taken advantage of and this must be stopped. Legalizing human selling will help regulate a system to monitor the black market. Furthermore, ensuring that everyone's civil liberties are respected by legalizing the sale of human donors helps ensure that everyone can make their own choice about their body. It is very important that individuals can choose what they can and cannot do with their bodies.
