The Manhattan ProjectThe Manhattan Project was to see if it was possible to make an atomic bomb. The success of this project would forever change the world by making it known that something so powerful can be created by man. The success of the Manhattan Project was something that impacted everyone involved as they helped create something with such great destructive power that it could destroy a city in seconds. The University of Chicago in Illinois played a huge role in making the atomic bomb (The Manhattan Project, Sue Hook). The University was placed under a football field where no one ever thought it would be (The Manhattan Project, Sue Hook). The university did a test to see if atomic energy could actually be controlled and when the test was confirmed to be a success, it was clear that this was absolutely possible (The Atomic Bomb Project, Dale Anderson). If the test had been a failure, the atomic bomb may never have been created. Since the test was a success, it meant that the project was progressing and that they were getting closer and closer to their goal. In addition to the University of Chicago, there were several laboratories that had been established in the United States to test nuclear weapons. substances (The Atomic Bomb Project, Dale Anderson). Probably one of the most important was Los Alamos, New Mexico, where the first atomic bomb was created (The Manhattan Project America Makes the First Atomic Bomb, Don Beyer). Los Alamos was set up as a place where scientists wouldn't have to worry about any secrets coming out of what they were doing or how they were testing and designing the bomb. This could have had a huge impact on the project and provided information to someone who put...... middle of paper... new weapons for the arsenals of a world at war, or for the arsenals of nations preparing for war, then the time will come when humanity will curse the names of Los Alamos and Hiroshima (Sue Hook).” To think that the idea of the atomic bomb was first born at a university in Chicago. The atomic bomb was once said to be impossible, but in today's world the atomic bomb can be easily produced (Sue Hook). Works Cited Anderson, Dale. the atomic bomb project.
