Violent video games should not be banned from the United States. Violent video games are not related to real-world violence. In fact, these games can enhance reading and visual skills that can be used in the real world. Even if a state banned the sale of violent video games, it would be against the Constitution. Furthermore, statistics show that while sales of violent video games increase, violence among teenagers decreases. Violent video games shouldn't be banned anytime soon. First of all, video games can benefit the person who plays them. Video games strengthen reading and visual skills. In the article "What Video Games Can Teach Us" by Emily Sohn, Sohn states that "because children are interested in gaming, they often end up reading at a level well above their grade level." This statement is true for anything, a person will do things as long as they think it will benefit them. In one case, children believe that reading while playing will help them win the game. So they will read even though they may not realize that they are improving their literacy skills as they play. A game can also improve your visual skills. A study conducted by researchers at the University of Rochester concluded that video game players acquire better visual abilities than people who don't play them. Video game players can track multiple objects at a time. As well as choosing items faster from a messy environment. If a state were to ban the sale of video games, it would be against the constitution. The First Amendment to the Constitution states that “Congress shall make no law respecting… or abridging the freedom of speech.” This means that a state cannot prevent a seller from selling a violent video game.
