Colonialism was when Europe conquered much of Africa and Asia, followed by postcolonialism. During post-colonialism people from Europe began to question the way European literature spoke about people of color (Africans, Asians). This lens allows people to see the racism behind what they are reading, whether it is intentional or not. It questions poetic ideas such as (darkness = evil) and (light = goodness, purity). It all gives you a different perspective on parts of the book to understand what's going on. OMAN tells the story of two friends during the Great Depression who travel to a farm to fulfill their desire to own a farm. Lennie made the whole dream more difficult because he always has to be careful not to get into trouble. He's gotten into trouble before, and now he's on this new farm too. “I'm not sure I don't want you here anymore. A black man must have some rights even if he doesn't like them” (82). This tells the reader that he has certain freedoms, but they may not necessarily be things he likes to do or have. Being alone is not accurate...
