But I have also learned that when praying, the contents of my heart, the contents of my prayers, and how I receive His answer are equally important. Before I pray, I need to make sure I don't have any prayer busters (problems in the life of the person praying) that are hindering my communication with God. I also need to do three “tests” for my prayers. Hybels challenged us to ask whether our prayers are consistent with Scripture, consistent with our spiritual gifts, and whether they promote service or selfishness. Finally, the book discusses answers to prayers. It made one thing clear. God always answers our prayer. A quote from the book that I really liked is this: “If the request is wrong, God says, 'No.' If the timing is wrong, God says, 'Slow.' If you are wrong, God says, “Grow up.” But, if the request is right, the time is right, and you are right, God says, “Go!” (86) There may be many ways in which He communicates His answers to us. He can communicate through His word, speaking to us through the people in our lives or through direct promptings from the Holy Spirit. God wants to speak to us, we just need to learn to listen to him
