Huckleberry Finn: A Father Figure Mark Twain, the author of Huckleberry Finn, wrote a story that everyone will enjoy. Huck is a boy with little love in his life, his mother died when he was very young and he drank to have a father. Huck lives with the widow and she tried to raise him well. While at the widow's, Huck went to school and learned to read and write. The widow also tried to civilize him. She would buy him nice clothes and make him do his homework. The main character of this story is Huck Finn, Finn is a little boy with many problems in life. Huck needed a father figure more than anything in life. He needed someone to talk to about anything. Huck's dad was never there for him, except maybe to tan him. Huck's dad thought he was trying to kill him because he was going to school. "You've put on a lot of frills since I've been away. I'll put you down before I finish with you. You think you're better than your father, don't you? Why can't he?" t? I'll take it away from you. Who told you that you could get involved in such nonsense, hey? -who told you you could" Pap chided (p,26). Huck didn't like having to wear nice clothes, or even go to school, but he had to go. "Starched clothes, a lot. You think you're a big shot, don't you?" asked Pap (p,26)? Huck would try to be a rebel because he didn't have a male to tell him directly wrong. If Huck needed help, the only real person with who he could have talked to would be Tom Sawyer, a very good friend who was also a thief, a rebel, and lived alone Tom was not a great role model, for a boy like Huck His father was always away, and never there for him, and when he was around he was always drunk. It's hard enough to talk to a drunk man, let alone when you have a problem and need advice. A boy's childhood is very crucial to how Huckleberry Finn was in his life written to show young males that there are ways to find someone.
