The United States and the USSR emerged as superpowers after the First World War. The two countries were now the two most powerful nations on earth, but they had serious differences in policies and this led to a stalemate between the two countries, a stalemate that became known as the Cold War. Initially the countries engaged in the supremacy of the arms race. Every nation wanted to create the most powerful bomb. A few years later another run began. It was a race for control of space. This period became known as the Space Race, a period that lasted from 1957 to 1975. The Space Race became symbolic of the political competition between two enemy world powers. For years the two superpowers have devised and planned means and ways to surpass each other. Finally, in October 1957, the USSR launched Sputnik into space. Thus began years of rivalry for control of space called the Space Race. This article tries to answer the question of which country won the space race. The answer to the question of who won the space race may be controversial and it all depends on who is asking the question. new frontiers have always been an important factor in the future success of companies that have capitalized on opportunities as they have arisen” (Richardson). The United States was obsessed with space technology and flexed its muscles to acquire more arsenals, even as it expanded supremacy. The world watched the rivalry between the two superpowers. Russia had won the lunar battle but the race was far from over (Reeves 42). America was furious and began propaganda according to which, since the USSR had the ability to launch a satellite into space, it could not be said that it could cause serious harm to the United States by sending nuclear weapons from space and.. . half of paper... ...?NASA's technological advances continue to generate billions of dollars, provide jobs for countless people, and, most importantly, save lives. Today we see more and more young people pursuing careers and jobs in science. The Cold War was one of the most tense periods in world history as the two superpowers brought the world to the brink of war on several occasions. America emerged from this period as a much more technologically developed country. Peter Dickens in an article titled Who Really Won the Space Race, stated that “the conventional story is that the Soviet Union had an early advantage but the United States “won”[6] (monthly review). Some will say that the USSR won the space race, however there is evidence that this never happened. It is clear that the United States won the space race with NASA and left with NASA as its own
