In A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare, the moon plays a very significant role throughout the entire play. It's a symbol connected to many things that happen throughout the game and seems to help bring about the comedic behavior that fills most of it. The moon also raises the idea of dreaming which plays a very significant role in the show as well. If anyone knows anything about our solar system, then references to moons may be picked up early. Three of the character names; Oberon, Titania and Puck are all names of three moons of the planet Uranus (NASA). Even though the name of these three moons came long after William Shakespeare wrote the famous play, it is still important to mention because it gives an idea of how important the moon will be as a factor during the play itself. The moon is mentioned for the first time. at the opening of the opera in act one verse three, by the character Teseo. Theseus begins the play by mentioning his impending marriage to the Amazon queen Hippolyta, and how the old moon is taking too long to leave so that the new one can rise and he can finally have the chance to take her hand in marriage and also have the opportunity to sleep with her. In the case of Theseus making the moon appear, we are shown that it is used for the first time to show the passage of time in the play. The mention of the dream quickly follows suit in the next few lines spoken by Hippolyta where she mentions that the two of them will "quickly dream of time (1.1.9)." The moon is also used to symbolize many other things in this play. . In my opinion, for example, it is closely related to the theme of desire. Many of the characters' actions take place below... in the center of the card... such as in act four, scene one, when Demetrius talks to the other three characters after waking up in the woods. He says: “Are you sure/that we're awake? It seems to me/That nevertheless we sleep, we dream." His accusations are quickly followed by the other three young characters who agree with him that they too feel as if everything was a dream. Along with the accusations of the younger characters, many other mystical dream situations occur. There is the case of Nick Bottom receiving the donkey's head from Puck during one of his mischievous attacks, which we all know cannot happen except in the state of someone dreaming. Another thing that would be dreamy would be when Puck uses the love juice of the "Cupid flower" to bring about the numerous love misadventures that occur thanks to Oberon's orders and sometimes even mixing those same orders.
