Topic > The Negative Effects of Violence on Media

It is quite evident that children are becoming big consumers of media. Every day the news reports some form of violence. In adults, exposure to media violence may have little or no effect on them, but the violence that children witness can have a negative impact on them on a psychological level. Early exposure to violence in films, media and cartoons puts children at risk of developing aggressive and violent behavior as they grow up. The Assisting Children Through Transition (ACT) program addresses the impact of media violence on the development of young children and teaches parents strategies to reduce their children's exposure to media violence. In the show Family Guy, characters mock and imitate some of the tragic events that have happened with violence in communities around the world. Unfortunately, the show's producers put some humor behind those scenes that can easily make even a person sensitive to the topic laugh. Regardless of the humor involved, the subject's sensitivity can cause emotional and psychological damage that can have a lasting effect on the individual viewing the show.
