Topic > America and the War on Drugs - 1211

Maybe Americans take what they have for granted and forget that there are other countries with problems. Why does America care about what happens in other countries like Colombia, when they too have their own drug problems? The United States of America has a rather large drug trafficking problem, but compared to Colombia it is quite small. To help Columbia solve the problem, the US Senate decided to send troops there and take control of it. This new involvement will have many consequences, such as the cost of a war, the loss and gain of jobs, and the physical side effects. Now war is a very serious topic for sociologists to study, this gives them a chance to study people and how they react to certain environments. Sociologists have three main paradigms that they can match people to learn how they function in certain circumstances. The paradigms used are Structural-Functional, Social-Conflict and Symbolic-Interaction. Here is a brief description to help make the sociologist's perspective more understandable. The Structural-Functional paradigm has multiple interconnected parts; morally desirable functional consequences and conflict is often destructive. How is society integrated? What consequences are there for these different parties? The social conflict paradigm is what you have when a society is a competitive situation. Some groups have power and some want it, some win and some lose. The ultimate paradigm of symbolic interaction is that society is like a stage where people define and redefine meaning as they interact with each other. This brief description should help make this paper about sociologists' view of the war on drugs a little more understandable. In war events people usually tend to suffer large financial losses, the reason for this is because prices rise to cover the expenses. loss of other things. In war money becomes very scarce because there is a cost for machinery such as guns, tanks, shelters for troops and so on. Unfortunately this war will cost 1.7 billion dollars. Patrick Simms, a radio announcer for National Public Radio, has decided that he will title a magazine series based on this war and that series will be called “Putting the War on the War on Drugs.” This label is quite accurate because Americans are actually paying to fight these drug lords and eliminate... middle of paper... home, those who are about to retire, protesters who think ending drugs is wrong, and those feel it was right. All signs show people what effects drugs have on their society and their daily lives. A paradigm that could shed light on this is Symbolic Interaction because people fought for what they believed in and managed to make those people symbols. If people didn't fight, what they believe is that problems would remain unsolved and America would be a tragic place to live. The war on drugs is a good idea if people don't care about losing their jobs or even suffering, but about shaping the future world we live in today. If funding a war in another country is the only way to get the point across, then it should be done. People don't realize how society is greatly affected by drugs because most of society is involved in them or helps produce them or even sell them. Sure war is expensive and there are positives and negatives, but America has gotten to a point where anything that involves harming or hurting others is demand driven and most likely eliminated,.
