Education has begun to be taken for granted, without realizing the impact it has on culture. In the TV show Community, many characters' views on education differ. There are both positive and negative stereotypes revealed throughout the show that were discussed in such a way that they could change the issues present. Even though the show Community is presented as a comedy, with many mishaps, it presents education as something important and to be treasured. In our culture, education is often underestimated, seen as a right rather than a privilege; However, Community, forces audiences to re-examine education and why it is placed such a high value in our culture. In the show Community, at Greendale Community College, the main character, Jeff, was a lawyer, with a fake degree, and needs to go back to school to graduate so he can keep his job. Jeff decides that he will try to bribe a professor he knows, to give him all the answers to the exams. Jeff is lazy and doesn't want to study to get a proper education, he would rather cheat to get a degree. While Jeff is walking through college, he sees an attractive classmate, Britta, who is a high school dropout and is returning to school after seeing the value of education, and decides to hit on her. Organize a fake Spanish study group so you have time to talk to her. They are then joined by Abed, a foreign-born student who must overcome cultural and mental challenges to succeed in school. Abed then invites his friends from Spanish class, consisting of: Troy, a former high school athlete and prom king, Pierce, an elderly businessman trying to stay current, Shirley, a wife and mother who wants more from life, a. ..... middle of paper ...... the public will have to re-examine education and why our culture places such a high value on it. A person may be rejected to realize the importance of education. They could transform their way of thinking and “save” their life by doing so, because they will use education to their advantage and to succeed in life. The show was effective in conveying the cultural message. Jeff was transformed and saved by education mainly because he will look at things in life differently and will not take things for granted and will take the easy route. He will now take education seriously and be successful in life and his educational goals.
