When caring for children, it is difficult for nurses because, unlike adults, children cannot completely manage their treatments on their own. Children are typically very dependent on their caregiver, which means the nurse is responsible for educating all caregivers and ensuring they understand the information provided. I had personal experience with a patient whose family just couldn't stick to the treatment plan. The family was foreign and did not speak English well at all. The child had a G tube and often came to a respite care center (Pediatrics) because he had sediment in the line and it was not clean at all. This is an example I can give from my personal experience. However, there are multiple reasons why families are unable to sign up for home care plans. There are many factors that play into why a family member may not join. Some reasons families are unable to provide adequate care for their children include financial ability to access supplies needed to perform treatments, difficulty of treatment, caregiver's education level...
