In the late 19th century and early 20th century, it became a trend among the working and middle class to go to meetings and events in public ballrooms. In the early 1920s ballroom dancing competitions began to thrive, so much so that in 1924 an organization called the Ballroom Branch of Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing was formed. The origins of jive date back to the 1920s and 1930s in nightclubs. of black America, the sounds of jazz led to Big Band Swing, perfecting dances such as the Lindyhop & the Jitterbug. The war years brought dance underground due to its "corrupting influence". However, American soldiers brought the dance with them to Europe. In the UK it emerged in the Rock & Roll years, having been adapted to fit the new musical style. The French took the dance, simplified it, mixed it with traditional Latin dances to form the dance we now know as modern. You live. Over the years the dance has been adapted to fit musical trends and broken down into a basic format that makes it suitable for the masses. The dance now known as Modern French Jive can be seen throughout the UK, in many different forms. But the basic dance is still the same, no matter how it is marketed.
