Gandhi was a political and spiritual leader of India and one of the most extraordinary men of the 20th century. In his early years of life he had many problems. “As a child he was so shy that as soon as class was over he ran home so as not to have to talk to anyone” (Mohandas K. Gandhi). Gandhi is known as one of the “founding fathers of the modern Indian state”, as a hero and as the man who achieved India's independence from the British Empire using peaceful methods. His actions were non-violent protests, people living together in harmony; a world without wars. Ultimately, his words continue to be relevant today and his beliefs have influenced many other leaders (Mahatma Gandhi Biography). Gandhi was considered a saint by his followers and was popularly known as “mahatma”, which in Sanskrit means “great soul” (Mohandas K. Gandhi). His very famous quote “You must be the change you wish to see in the world” (Mahatma Gandhi Quotes), is and should be adopted by all humanity. Gandhi transformed the world in positive ways through his teachings and by inspiring nonviolent resistance to oppression. Gandhi's teachings changed the world for the better and his ideas remain with us in the 21st century. Probably the most important key term in his teachings was Satyagraha, meaning force of truth (Mohandas K. Gandhi). Gandhi fought for equality and was absolutely against any form of discrimination and racism. He believed that the truth will come out sooner or later, so there is no point in pushing it with violence. “Nonviolence is the weapon of the strong” (Mahatma Gandhi Quotes). He said, “There are many causes for which I am ready to die, but there are no causes for which I am willing to kill” (Mahatma Gandhi Quotes). This quote was really important because people must stand...... at the center of the paper ...... ader who demonstrated the effectiveness of peaceful resolutions. Later, many followed him again, and other famous people inspired his work and lifestyle for their own goals, including Martin Luther King Junior. Gandhi lived to serve humanity by first establishing peace and introducing his teachings to his own country, and then spreading them to the rest of the world until the end of his days. He wrote a letter to Nazi leader Hitler considering him a friend, with an indulgent and friendly approach. As for what he said “The future depends on what you do today” (Mahatma Gandhi Quotes), he is absolutely right. He successfully achieved his goal of spreading peace and his own teachings, encouraging all others to follow his path. Gandhi, the "father of the nation", of the world and ambassador of universal peace, is a leader who positively changed humanity.
