Technology plays a very important role in today's society. Everyone has a smartphone, and we want the latest and greatest TVs, computers, cell phones and tablets. Some of these include iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Samsung Smart TV, Samsung Smart Watches and the new Google Glass. More and more schools are using technology in their teaching methods, including our one-to-one program at Oxon Hill High School where every student received a Samsung Google Chromebook. Technology should be used in school curricula and teaching for the improvement of communication, future innovations and convenience for both students and teachers. Technology has improved the way we communicate with each other and opens many doors for us. In ancient times people had to directly carry a message somewhere, which could take days, weeks or even years. Today a person can send a message that will arrive in less than 10 seconds, either via email or SMS. Source B by Kevin Delaney explains how teachers are affected by the new use of technology in their classroom. They can allow children to learn foreign languages online, use technology to analyze data and new gadgets to collect that data. Some people like Tim Wilson, a technology integration specialist at Hopkins High School in Minnetonka, Minnesota, and Angel Boligan, a Mexican political cartoonist, believe that technology is disrupting and weakening communication between young people and the outside world. Wilson raises the question in Source B “how do we communicate today with students who grew up with technology from the beginning?” and Boligan in Source F also raises a similar question with his cartoon, asking how children can connect to the outside world if they are so d...... middle of paper ...... without a computer to stretch a pass your hand across a keyboard to reach every book ever written, every painting ever painted, every symphony ever composed.” The author of Source E believes that because students are not already exposed to some of the things, we do not deserve or have the mental capacity to learn. In opposition he says students don't deserve technology because our attention span is short. For some of my colleagues this is true, but for those of us who want to learn, the Internet is an extremely powerful tool. From personal experience, technology has improved the way I learn and made it easier for students to collaborate with each other to improve our learning. In conclusion, technology should be used in curriculum and teaching for improved communication, future innovations, and convenience for both students and teachers..
