Topic > Buddhist Culture and Ceremony - 1105

My group and I were imagined by the Buddhist culture for its architecture and this is known to be a culture that means changing oneself in order to develop qualities such as wisdom, kindness, peace , as these qualities would lead to a better life. We can observe if this is shown in a Buddhist ceremony and the best way to observe Buddhist culture is to go to one of their ceremonies. We visited a temple called Fo Guang Shah to witness their Sunday prayers. In this essay I analyze the power manifested in the ceremony as an ideology and ruling class by looking at Athusser's interpellation and Antonia Gramsci's theory of hegemony. The power demonstrated by the Buddhist ceremony shows how people and the environment are controlled. After visiting the temple, I noticed that Buddhist people not only idolized Buddha spiritually but also physically. Their Buddhist god and inspiration is Buddha, who is a bald male. The temple had several Buddha statues everywhere, such as those sought in the walls, shelves, posters and statues. The interesting thing I noticed was that the Buddhists wore robes very similar to those worn by the Buddha. But there was a hierarchical difference between the Buddhist people because the monks wore orange robes with gold robes, and the main monk wore red robes with gold robes, while the others wore brown robes. Besides dressing up as Buddha, there was another example of Buddha idolatry, which was that all the monks shaved their heads just as Buddha was bald. When a Buddhist entered the sacred room where the ceremony was held, he bowed before the five statues displayed in the room. They also sat on the ground with their legs crossed as the Buddha had the same po...... center of the card...... could help me understand why a ceremony is performed in a specific way, therefore, this they led to more precise information. With the limitations evidently shown I was still able to provide an accurate connection between the theories and the evidence I observed with my own eyes. With the two aspects exposed in the ceremony it was shown how power can control people and an atmosphere. In the ceremony it was seen that ideology leads to controlling actions and this point was demonstrated through Althusser's interpellation. Another aspect, the second, was able to show how the heichary did everything systematically, even if the culture was imposed on people by the ruling class. This aspect manifests itself through Gramsci's concept of hegemony. Power can create a controlled or limited environment, but it can also get things done.
