Urban life in Hong Kong and TibetWhere they live---------------In Tibet, people in the more urban areas live in houses made of wood or stone depending on what materials are most readily available in a particular area. The roof is made of tree trunks which are then covered with a thick layer of clay like the house shown below.[IMAGE]There are usually three or four floors with stairs made of tree trunks on the outside. The ground floor is usually reserved for animals, the second where most of the bedrooms are located and the top floor is reserved for toilets, so the rest of the house doesn't stink. Furniture is painted in bright colors and wood and animal and human waste are the main source of fuel. People living in the more rural areas of Tibet live in tents. There are two types of tents; black yak wool curtains and white cloth curtains. To make black yak wool tents people use yak wool and tie it with ropes, then tie the ropes together and it takes about 200 pounds of wool to make a tent for a family of 5. White cloth tents are not that common and are good for traveling. They are quite small and usually covered with religious symbols like the one on the back.[IMAGE]Inside both types of tents there are no beds, but only cushions and carpets. The tents are divided into two halves. Half for the woman and the other half for the man. In the male half there is usually a place of worship with statues, scriptures, etc. of the Buddha. In Hong Kong, however, everyone lives in high-rise condominiums of around 40 floors due to very limited space and the government has now started to fill the port.[IMAGE]How they earn a livingIn Tibet the most common professions are agriculture and processing of yaks, but the government is now creating more jobs for students, such as in the railway sector
