What did Jesus' death and resurrection accomplish? To understand the meaning of Jesus' death and resurrection it is imperative to understand the meaning of the Old Testament and the covenants that God created Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David. When God created the world and humans, it was up to God to inhabit the world with humans. However, Adam and Eve, the first humans created by God, sin against Him by eating from the tree that God had forbidden. From that moment on the world fell into sin. God seeks to renew the relationship that humans should have had with Him. However, while God continued to reach out to His people, they remained in their sinful ways. Therefore, God makes several covenants to attempt to restore the relationship that has been broken by His people. In this process of renewal, God wanted to include all humanity to participate in this new and final alliance. God's Covenant with Israel After Adam and Eve sinned by eating the forbidden fruit, sin was in the heart of man. As a result, God wanted to destroy mankind but found favor with Noah. Noah listens to God as God commands him to build an ark. God agrees with Noah that he would flood the earth. Noah tried to tell his people but no one except his family would listen. After God flooded the earth, he made a covenant with Noah stating that he would not destroy the earth again. The definition of a covenant is “an agreement between two or more parties that outlines mutual rights and responsibilities” (Myers, 1975). Years passed and God called a man named Abraham to be the father of a nation, which would later be called Israel. and Go makes a pact with Abraham and states that his descendants will be as numerous as the stars in the sky. Years g... half of the sheet... blank. Shortly thereafter, Jesus appeared and told her to spread the news to the disciples. ResurrectionWith the resurrection Jesus proves that he is God. There is no history of any other religious leader being resurrected from the dead. By doing this, Jesus validates the miracles he performed and the word he shared with the world. After the resurrection Jesus visited his disciples and this moment changed human history. The disciples were filled with God's Holy Spirit. They performed miracles and shared the good news. This movement was so powerful that even a Roman who persecuted Christians became a believer in Jesus. His belief about the resurrection was profoundly changing him and humanity. The disciples moved to different cities to share the word that Jesus had given them. They were willing to die for Jesus but they knew they had a mission to fulfill.
