A Rose for Emily - Her Father is to BlameA Rose for Emily by William Faulkner tells the story of a young woman who is violated by the severe mentality of his father. After being the only man in her life, Emily's father dies and she finds it difficult to let go. Like her father, Emily has a stubborn outlook on life and refuses to change. Despite having this attitude towards life, Emily practically isolated herself from society for the rest of her life. She was alone for the first time and her reaction to this situation was loneliness. This story takes place during the Reconstruction era, from the late 1800s to the early 1900s in Jefferson, Mississippi. Emily grew up in the pre-Civil War era. Her father, who was the only person in her life, except for a former lover who soon left her, also raised her. The plot of this story is mainly about Miss Emily's attitude towards change. While growing up, Emily grew up in a comfortable environment because her father owned a lot of money. Considering that her father was a very wealthy person who occasionally lent money to the town, Emily had everything a child could want. This made Emily very spoiled and selfish and she never knew the value of a dollar until her father left her with nothing but a dilapidated house that began to decay after a period of time. He began to ignore the surrounding decay of the house and its appearance. These lies continued as she denied her father's death, refused to pay taxes, ignored town gossip that she was a fallen woman, and did not tell the pharmacist why she purchased rat poison. His life, like the decaying home, suffered from a lack of genuine love and care. His physical appearance is the result of years of neglect. As time passed, pieces of Emily began to drift away, and so did the house she had confined herself to. The town has developed a great sympathy towards Emily, even though she never feels it. He was slightly aware of the faint whispers that began when his presence was near. Gossip and whispers may have been the cause of his horrible behavior. The town couldn't wait to pity Mrs. Emily for the way she looked down on people because she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth and never thought she would be alone the way her father left her.
