Leadership in action1. How would you describe Jack Hartnett's leadership style? Jack Hartnett's leadership style as described in the text is anachronistic. He runs his business his own way. The styles he chose to run his business also describe him as a good leader and a "difficult to deal with" leader. What made him a "difficult to deal with" leader is that he imposes on his employees his Eight Commandments, which his employees must follow. If they don't follow these commandments he will fire them. An example of his commandments is “I will tell you only once.” It is a very strict commandment and you can expect many employees to follow some unreasonable statements. Another example of his bad leadership style is that his employees cannot obey him and sure thing they cannot disagree with him. These two examples have made him a leader that his employees will have difficulty managing. It is difficult to work in such conditions. Some people cannot be effective if they have to follow such rules in the company. On the other hand, the other side of his leadership style is described in the text. As it is written in the text he is also a good leader and knows what he wants for his business, how to keep his employees and how to manage his business to achieve high profits. He is hiring top-notch staff on his own and spends a lot of time with them and their spouses so he can find out all the information about them. He wants to find all the information about them because one of his goals is to have employees willing to work with him for a long time. He likes to have employees who are loyal and willing to work hard for him. Working with Jack Hartnett will provide you with a home, a family, a community and a place to grow. He will be there for you when you have problems with your family and spouse, because he wants employees to be focused when working and not think about family problems. Jack Hartnett is a good leader because he spends a lot of time with his employees playing golf and he also wants to create lasting bonds with his employees, plus working with Jack Hartnett means you will be paid above the national average.
