Topic > The Conscience of a Liberal, by Paul Krugman - 1070

Over the years, America has struggled to implement healthcare reform. Krugman's book The Conscience of a Liberal discusses a “new New Deal” for America. He proposes that America is ready for another program similar to those implemented by Franklin D. Roosevelt during the Great Depression. Krugman suggests that health care reform should be the primary focus of a successful administration in the 2008 elections. Krugman was right to propose that America should move toward health care reform. In addition to the main purpose of the book, which is healthcare reform, the book also has major themes that are consistent throughout the book. Such themes are America becoming a center-left country, racism, political tricks, and various other points. Paul Krugman was born on February 28, 1953 in New York. He rallied against injustices in society, marched against the bombing of Cambodia, and supported liberal political candidates. He considered that most of his generation, along with himself, took the America they grew up in for granted. Krugman published his book The Conscience of a Liberal in 2007 and published the first paperback edition in 2009 with a new introduction. The book has numerous consistent themes throughout the book with the main purpose of proving that America needs healthcare reform. Krugman's views presented in this book are biased because he is a liberal. One of the main themes of the book is that America is becoming an increasingly left-of-center country. Krugman sees America becoming so thanks to his liberal vision. One of the main arguments he presents is that Republicans are losing popularity in the South due to diminishing racial issues. On page 13 he states that America is becoming “less white” and then goes…halfway through the paper…ul Krugman on healthcare, tax cuts, Social Security, the mortgage crisis and Alan Greenspan.
