Topic > Malcolm X - 1970

Malcolm To make this change happen there has to be something so controversial that it can push people away from the normal routine they are used to. Few people can raise the amount of attention needed to fuel such controversy. Malcolm X was one of those few who would die trying to get that attention. Earl Little was a black Baptist minister and passionate civil rights activist. On May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska Earl and his wife Louise gave birth to Malcolm Little. Malcolm has been a victim of prejudice since day one. Before Malcolm was four, his family had to move twice to avoid death threats from the Black Legion (white supremacists) regarding Earl's civil rights activism. Malcolm's family's attempts to avoid imminent violence were unsuccessful. In 1929 their home in Lansing, Michigan, burned to the ground, and police ruled the fire an accident. The family managed to fight on until 1931, when Earl's body was found lying on the city's streetcar tracks. The police also ruled that it was an accident, the Littles, however, firmly believed that both cases were not accidents. Shortly after Louise suffered an emotional breakdown and was admitted to hospital, the children were divided between various foster families and orphanages. Malcolm proved to be a strong child and graduated at the top of his class in middle school. Oddly enough, Malcolm's future was changed forever when his favorite teacher told him that his dream of becoming a lawyer was "not a realistic goal for a Negro." Disconcerted, Malcolm dropped out of school and spent time in Boston working at various jobs. He went to Harlem and began a life of crime where he organized narcotics, prohostility...... middle of paper...... This was exciting because not all books make you feel like you are the person they are talking about and that you are experiencing everything that person has been through. In conclusion, The Autobiography of Malcolm This book informed me that Malcolm Should it be on a stamp? In my opinion yes. Even though his life was controversial, he made a change. The difference between Malcolm He wanted the world to know what he wanted and what he wanted changed in the world. This book helped me understand that it is easy to make yourself known to some, but you have to be almost fearless to make yourself known to the whole world.
