The main intent of a psychologist is to help people mentally and emotionally. To obtain information about this profession I will compare my values ​​with those of the job. The pay in this occupation is a good balance with my values. The amount of money in a job is not everything I'm looking for but it influences the choice a lot. The salary of a psychologist depends on the type of occupation the job entails. In the United States, the average hourly wage is $40 and the average annual wage is $83,580. Between the U.S. median and the Chicago average, the pay amount for this income would increase to $100,420. Chicago is 56% more expensive than Carroll, Iowa due to the cost of housing (cost of living). More appropriately, a psychologist's salary is determined by reputation and experience. The hours for this work are often set by the worker. Many work part-time as independent consultants, the average annual salary as an independent consultant is around $90,000. They can offer weekends or evenings to accommodate clients. Psychologists who work in clinics, government, industry, or schools work full time during regular business hours. Paid vacation, sick leave, and health insurance are often given to a psychologist in these fields. Independent consultants do not receive health insurance. This job may have benefits in terms of bonus checks and/or advertising and help in starting a new company. After examining this type of work environment I know that many of the qualities, in my opinion, are compatible with me. The main goal I have when choosing a job is to help people. I once saw myself as a person who could entertain people and make them happy, but after seeing the tasks of a psychologist I now want to do much more. I feel that people often need someone who understands them. As a psychologist I would have the potential to help people and reduce the chances of suicide and perhaps the number of people with disorders. Many people in this world are misunderstood and this work gives me the power to change that.
