A: I am excited to use many of the professional skills and experience I have gained here in the United States during my service in the Peace Corps. With my training as a medical science major, I believe I have a deep understanding of how many intricacies of the body work. This training will work great in educating others about the biological aspects of HIV/AIDS and other diseases prevalent in Botswana. Through my HIV/AIDS counseling and test administration here at Washington State University I have also had good practice in explaining the virus and the dangers associated with risky behaviors. Through this consulting experience, I learned many new things about testing procedures and drug administration, as well as new scientific discoveries associated with the virus and the war against it. My EMT training will also come in handy in many situations during my Peace Corps experience. I hope I never have to use any of the emergency medicines I am trained in. However, many non-life-threatening techniques will definitely come in handy on a daily basis. This includes things like preventing dehydration and treating wounds. I aspire to accomplish many things during my time in the Peace Corps. I hope I can make a lasting impact on my community and those around me. I hope to help the people of Botswana see in a positive light what a citizen of the United States is truly like. I hope to help my community members achieve goals as a community by using my technical assistance. I aspire to come face to face with people who suffer in ways that are difficult for me to imagine and, through perseverance, prevail with a better understanding of how the people of Botswana can be helped either way… half way document ...I clearly understand what exactly is expected of me and what freedoms I have in terms of freedom to be creative in how I help solve the needs of my community. E: I'm definitely using Peace Corps service as a meditative time to decipher what I want to do in the next phase of life. I thought about many avenues: medical school, nursing school, physician assistant school. I will wait and see where my heart takes me during my service in the Peace Corps. I have aspirations of returning to a needy part of the world after completing my studies. I have been fortunate enough to live a great life thus far that has given me a great educational opportunity and I want to continue to pay off the debt I have for an opportunity like this. I feel that I will forever be in a field of service to help those who have little opportunity and access to help themselves.
