According to the Fortune Global 500 list released this year, "Walmart is the world's largest public company and largest private employer with more than two million employees and is the largest retailer to date." Walmart operates more than 11,000 retail units under 69 banners in 27 countries and e-commerce sites in 10 countries and employs 2.2 million associates worldwide (1.3 million in the United States alone). The company was founded in 1962 by Sam Walton and opened its first Walmart store in Rogers, Arkansas (USA). Company then incorporated on October 31, 1969 as Walmart Store, INC. Walmart stock began trading in 1970 and went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 1972. It is headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas.
