Topic > Essay on persuasion in Julius Caesar - 1213

Persuasion in Julius Caesar was an indispensable factor in the work. From Decius' cunning flattery to Antony's significantly impressive speech to the common people, many different ways of persuasion were used in Julius Caesar. His power was demonstrated through the eloquence between Brutus and Antony to the common people at Caesar's funeral. As a result of their talk, Antonio manages to appeal to their emotional feelings, convinces them to think that the conspiracy cannot be justified and pushes them to go against the conspirators. Cassius and Brutus failed to justify their conspiracy which gave Antony a valuable chance to gain the trust of the crowd. Now I will analyze how the persuasion of the different characters in the story of Julius Caesar turned the situation around. As the leader of the conspiracy to assassinate the great Caesar, Cassius tried to make Brutus join the conspiracy for the sake of many positive aspects. with him. And that is, Brutus is popular among the common people and also Brutus' father was highly respected as much as the senators. His personality was cold, which will make the conspiracy even harder. Early in the conversation between Cassius and Brutus, Brutus reveals that he is at war with himself regarding Caesar. Revealing his condition strengthened Cassius' flattery towards Brutus by saying that he is as good as Caesar and that he is a very honorable man. Furthermore, to encourage his mind to join the conspiracy, he said that Caesar is just a common man by giving specific examples which showed Caesar is normal like others, for example Caesar shouted to help him when he was about to drown if Cassius and Caesar was a epileptic. Showing one's weakness is fatal especially if the person is a leader because if the leader shows the weak point...... middle of paper ...... the ransoms have filled the general coffers” Act 3 Scene 2 line #87, “When the poor cried, Caesar cried” Act 3 Scene 2 line#90 and “Thrice I presented him with a royal crown. Which he refused three times. Was this the ambition?" Act 3 Scene 2 line#96 All these refutations indicate that Caesar was not ambitious but rather was full of compassion and sympathy. He did not use any cunning skill but well-chosen facts and this changed the situation. No one would have thought that a single speech or persuasion would be able to turn the situation around and none of us thought that the power of persuasion could be so powerful. However, these two speeches in the play tested the influence of persuasion using numerous persuasion techniques , from simple flattery to well-chosen facts. In history, persuasion has been the main factor from the beginning of the conspiracy to the end of the conspiracy, and the result of persuasion has been powerful..
