Why do parents take their children to the zoo? A zoo is a great place for education, discovery and appreciation. The zoo is where animal experts make a difference and connect people with animals. An AZA study showed that 61% of zoo visitors found that their zoo and aquarium experience strengthened their values and attitudes toward conservation. A majority of 57% of visitors stated that their visit experience strengthened their connection with nature (Marino par. 5). The zoo is a good place for families to spend time together, gain knowledge and emotional connections with wildlife. It can provide the real picture of animals we have never heard of or have just seen on television. It's not just creating a memory, but a lesson about loving animals that every visitor has learned is more important. Have you ever thought that going to the zoo with a child is boring? But when we see a lion roar, we all shout “wow, that's the king of the jungle”. When we see the gorilla family sitting down, scratching each other's backs, we enjoy it and say "that's the dad, that's the mom." The zoo helps us to have the opportunity to see the animals directly, to hear their roar, to absorb their actions and suddenly creates in every visitor a greater appreciation for wildlife. They are no longer just places to see wild animals in cages. Most zoos offer educational programs that include stories, songs, activities, and provide petting and feeding areas. By creating the opportunity to come face-to-face with animals, the zoo offers extraordinary benefits for both children and adults. A zoo is a great place for children to understand the importance of caring for the environment and its significant impact on animals’
