Nelson Mandela's beliefs and actions. Nelson Mandela firmly believed in “equality for all South Africans and the overthrow of the apartheid system in South Africa” Van Wyk (2009, p.181). He was a very determined man to campaign to help bring equality and peace for all South Africans. These campaigns include the spear of the nation which in Xhosa means “umkonto wesizwe” Van Wyk (2009, p.183). The aim of this campaign was to fight against the government in power at the time, in the same way as the blacks fought. This according to Nelson Mandela was “fighting with weapons” Mandela (1996, p 559). Various other campaigns led by Nelson Mandela were called the Defiance campaign, and its main aim was to ignore “whites only” entrances to post offices, shops and trains. However, even though a large number of people died, some were arrested and several others were injured, they still wanted the government to abandon the apartheid law. One of Nelson Mandela's actions during that time was to join the African National Congress (ANC). His main objective in joining this party was to go against the apartheid government. As well as fighting for freedom and democracy for all South Africans. Nelson Mandela achieved this by signing the Freedom Charter. It was a set of beliefs and actions for freedom in South Africa, and in one of the declarations contained in the Freedom Charter said by Van Wyk (2009, p.223) “We as South Africa, declare that for our country and let the world know that South Africa belongs to all who live there.” Nelson Mandela's education. Nelson Mandela first enrolled at Qunu Primary School, where his teacher Miss Mdingane gave him the name Nelson, in accordance with the custom of giving everyone.... .. half of the paper ......ment as the first black president of a democratic South Africa. Nelson Mandela organizations were founded. Nelson Mandela resigned as President of South Africa and formed several organizations, one of which was the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund. To which he donated a third of his monthly salary, he established this fund to assist children in various cases. Be it healthcare, education or childcare without parental support. The Nelson Mandela Rhodes Foundation was also established, primarily to assist postgraduate students from across South Africa to continue their studies. He also created the Mandela Institute for Rural Education and Development. He was very passionate when it came to education, as he says in his biography "Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world". Mandela (1996, p.462)
