The impact of climate change and hostile international relations on the PhilippinesThe Republic of the Philippines, an island state located in the Malay Archipelago in Southeast Asia, comprising 7,107 islands, known as the Philippine archipelago, has a total area of nearly 300,000 square kilometers. The country, called “Las Islas Felipinas” in honor of King Philip II of Spain, fell prey to Spanish colonialism in 1565 (Jezek, 2006). Nowadays, the Philippines is still a developing country, so it has a series of problems that can lead to collapse, referring to Jared Diamond's 5-point framework that can lead to society's collapse, which is l human impact on the environment, climate change, relationship with the friendly society, relationship with the hostile society and society's response to the problem (Diamond,2003). This essay will analyze the 2 most serious problems that can lead the Philippines to collapse and the solutions to those problems. The problem in this case is climate change and dealing with a hostile society. The overall situation of the Philippines at the moment can be considered as a country facing a high risk of collapse due to these factors. The Philippines is not an oil-rich region, but the territory of the region is rich in many minerals. It is estimated that there are 21.5 billion tonnes of metal deposits and approximately 19.3 billion tonnes of non-metallic minerals in the ground. Nickel is the most abundant deposit in the Philippines, while iron and copper are also present in enormous quantities. (Morgan, n.d.) As a result, there is a human impact on the environment in terms of mining. The Philippines is also a country prone to natural disasters due to its location (Benson, 97).
