Research on this topic has highlighted that the majority of these adolescents experience a very hostile school environment. These adolescents are more likely than their heterosexual counterparts to have problems in school, to feel unsafe and disconnected from others, to be depressed, to use/abuse drugs and alcohol, and to commit suicide. Of course this won't be true for all young people in the LGBT community, but it is more likely to happen to one of them than to a heterosexual, cisgender young person.
