Renewable energy is a source of energy that does not run out with use, such as water, wind or solar energy. The world currently relies heavily on coal, oil and natural gas for its energy. Fossil fuels are non-renewable, they take up a limited resource that will eventually run out, becoming too expensive and too environmentally damaging to recover. Although many renewable energy resources such as wind and solar energy are constantly renewed and will never run out. South Africa has a large abundance of coal and 77% of its energy is derived from coal, with the remaining 28% exported around the world. I think the high percentage of exported coal is a consequence of the country's need for funds and I think the remaining 77% distributed across South Africa will not be enough as the demand for energy is growing day by day. and it won't stop growing. The coal we burn to create energy is very harmful to our environment as it releases carbon dioxide into our atmosphere and if we are not careful our country may not be so great in decades to come. Our country can depend on coal as its main source of energy, but I don't think it is a viable option for the future as it is non-renewable and will run out sooner or later. Renewable energy is an option for South Africa to consider as it provides a source that our country can rely on forever. This is not the only advantage it has as it provides an economically viable option as this project can create jobs and allow us to sell more coal to other countries that are short of coal. I think that, thanks to these facts and benefits, renewable energy would solve many of South Africa's problems.
