Without communication and interaction between parents and teachers there is no possibility of inter-institutional connections between family and home. Differences in social class may cause differences in relationships between parents and the institution due to the value of education and their academic achievements. Lareau comes to the conclusion and says: “I summarize the evidence that social class has a decisive influence on the connections between families and other social institutions. I further suggest that these class-related patterns emerge from the defining characteristics of social class, rather than being a manifestation of individuals' aspirations” (Lareau, 2000, p. 167). I agree with Lareau that social class plays an influential role in the connections we make whether in our family or in an institution, but I disagree and think that aspirations are critical to our outcomes and therefore aspirations are at least indirectly related to the definition of social class characteristics. From the working class perspective, aspirations can range from not caring about using education to wanting to use education. The working class tends to get stuck in social class because they do not have similar resources as the middle class when trying to use education to the best of their ability. The inability to use available resources outside of school and in school is the cause and effect of parental separation between work and school. Furthermore, this separation is caused by the working hours of working class parents. When working as a working-class parent, the job requires more physical exertion, forcing parents to be relaxed when they arrive home. The separation between work and school does not allow for interconnection between the center… the center of the paper… the complications of the working class are understandable, but it is not impossible to benefit from the education that is being provided. As shown above, there are many issues with having primary school age children in school. There are many ways parents can take charge of their children's education. As a parent and educator it becomes their responsibility to do their own research or know people who can help their children use school to the best of their ability. It is critical to educate teachers and parents about the role they play in their youth's school lives and how they can take advantage of the resources provided at school to help their children succeed.
