Throughout this play we get a look inside the mind of Willy Loman, a salesman from Brooklyn, New York. Willy has worked for almost everything he has and maintains most of his property himself. He worked as a traveling salesman most of his life and developed a sincere belief in the American dream that he carried with him until the day he died. Despite Willy's best efforts, none of his children are able to realize his vision of success, much less carry forward his hope for a better life. Throughout the play we can observe his deterioration into the madness that accompanies the decay of his mind
