Water has always been an important part of people's lives. Did you know that just to produce a glass of milk requires 200 liters of water ("Hunger relief and water in Africa") and that this quantity reaches up to 13,000 liters for just one kg of beef ("Facts and figures") ? Just look at these numbers and consider that food is not the only thing that people need water for, you can easily see that people need really large amounts of water. Unfortunately the world is running out of water and this water shortage is affecting people in many ways, including their health and poverty. Even though there are many ongoing projects on the water crisis, there are still many people who have problems accessing water. People can and must do more about the crisis because it is not possible to live without water, the water crisis has made the lives of many people really difficult and from now on the situation will only get worse if people do not act. One of the major causes of water crisis is the growing population. According to the second volume of Food: In Context: Since 1950 the world has more than doubled its human population. In general, people are richer, consume more calories and eat more meat and therefore require more water to produce food. Increased pressure is being placed on the environment and, as a result, the quality of water available for drinking, food production and marine life is reducing (839). As can be seen from the text, the demand for water in the world has grown a lot and people have difficulty providing water in some places. A population projection predicts 40-50% growth ("Water Crisis") and with this growth demand will continue to increase.
